Agreed. “There is no more important goal than to have police officer wellness and resilience” and officers must not be stigmatized by asking for help. Too often this is the case. When an officer expresses his or her humility from the ordeals of a high stress job they often require a short time out. Not punishment and fitness evaluations. These private expressions of emotion need not evolve into a department wide outcast. Pariah.
In 2017 I heard the NYPD commissioner say “it is a strength to reach out for help” and that officers must do that for longevity and personal well-being.
